Michigan shooting spree leaves six dead, including suspect

A shooting spree in Missaukee County, Michigan, resulted in the deaths of six people, including the 39-year-old suspect, Chad Hickman. The violence began Friday morning in Lake Township, where police discovered three bodies—a 45-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old boy—at a residence. A 13-year-old girl was also shot and was initially reported in critical condition, though her status later stabilized.

Following the initial attack, a manhunt was launched for Hickman. Authorities later discovered the body of a 53-year-old man at a second location. Hickman was eventually found dead in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake alongside a 29-year-old woman. All victims died from gunshot wounds.

Investigations into Hickman’s background revealed a history of domestic violence and child abuse. In 2024, he was sentenced to one year in jail for fourth-degree child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, though more serious felony charges were dismissed. Hickman’s ex-wife, Katie Frai, criticized local prosecutors and a judge for allowing him to remain free despite his history of alleged abuse and threats.
