Dan Bartholomae hired as Michigan State athletic director

Michigan State University has hired Dan Bartholomae as its new athletic director. Bartholomae, who has served as the athletic director at Western Michigan University since 2022, is scheduled to begin his new role on August 31.

During his tenure at Western Michigan, Bartholomae oversaw 37 conference championships and the 2025 men’s hockey national title, the program’s first in 60 years. He was also recognized as a finalist for the Sports Business Journal AD of the Year.

Bartholomae succeeds J Batt, who departed for Kentucky in June. Michigan State President Kevin M. Guskiewicz stated that Bartholomae possesses the experience and vision to lead Spartan Athletics into its next era. The university’s board of trustees is expected to formally approve the contract on September 11.
