Michigan State University College of Arts and Letters Expands Community Impact Across Michigan

Michigan State University’s College of Arts and Letters is extending its reach beyond campus through a range of arts and humanities initiatives that support education, language access, public engagement and creative partnerships throughout the state. Dean Thomas Stubblefield said the arts “enrich our lives…foster a stronger sense of belonging, strengthen our communities, and help ensure that Michigan remains a place where people want to build their futures.” Projects highlighted include the MI Diaries project at the Michigan Science Festival, a Summer Circle Theatre performance, an Experience Architecture collaboration, and a community mural painted by students.

The college’s work is recognized statewide by Arts, Culture, and Humanities Day on Aug. 4, a observance proclaimed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2025. By linking research, creativity and community service, the college aims to equip graduates with communication, creativity, cultural understanding, ethical reasoning and problem‑solving skills needed across Michigan’s sectors.
