Michigan Voters Face Two Major Ballot Proposals in 2026 Election

State officials have certified a petition called "Michiganders for Money Out of Politics" for the November ballot. The citizen‑led initiative seeks to ban utilities, health insurers and large companies from donating to political candidates and to require disclosure of donors to political action committees. Over 561,000 signatures were submitted, with challenges reduced to a cushion of 163 valid signatures after a review.

Separately, voters in Benton Harbor and surrounding townships will decide on a millage renewal for the Southwest Michigan Regional Airport on the August 4 primary. The proposal would extend a local property tax for ten years, costing roughly $10 per year for most residents, to fund airport operations, improvements and emergency services that support the regional economy and lifeline flights.
