Michigan wildfires continue in Upper Peninsula
Firefighters in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are working to contain two wildfires, the Ridge Fire and the Craig Lake Fire, following recent thunderstorms. Precipitation has helped reduce fire activity, allowing crews to focus on critical containment efforts.
The Ridge Fire, located in Marquette and Baraga counties, covers approximately 450 acres and is 20% contained. A total of 53 firefighters are currently engaged in direct attacks along the fire edges and building containment lines.
The Craig Lake Fire, situated north of Craig Lake State Park, is estimated at 600 acres and is also 20% contained. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) confirmed that a lightning strike caused this fire. Due to the extremely remote and rugged terrain, 19 firefighters are working to establish access routes and containment lines. Authorities have advised local residents and visitors to remain cautious as crews continue their work.
