Michoacán Starts Building Toll‑Free Maravatío Bypass to Link With Mexico‑Guadalajara Highway

The federal government of Mexico is constructing an 8.2‑kilometre toll‑free bypass in the municipality of Maravatío, Michoacán, as part of the Plan Michoacán por la Paz y la Justicia. The project aims to boost regional economic activity, tourism and mobility by providing a direct connection to the Mexico‑Guadalajara highway.

The bypass, funded with an investment exceeding 5.3 billion pesos, will feature a 12‑metre wide carriageway and is scheduled to be completed by October 2027. It integrates with the broader modernization of the Maravatío‑Zitácuaro road, which remains toll‑free over its 72‑kilometre length, and is expected to benefit roughly one million residents of Maravatío, Irimbo, Áporo, Hidalgo, Tuxpan and Zitácuaro.

"La obra cuenta con una inversión superior a los cinco mil 300 millones de pesos," said Rogelio Zarazúa Sánchez, head of the Secretariat of Communications and Public Works (SCOP).
