Michoacán and Shandong sign cooperation agreement
The Governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, and the Governor of Shandong province, Zhou Naixiang, have formalized a letter of intent to promote commercial, cultural, educational, and tourism cooperation between their respective regions.
The agreement highlights the strategic logistical connection between the Port of Qingdao in Shandong and the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas in Michoacán. Officials noted that Michoacán offers significant energy resources and strategic maritime, air, and land communication routes to facilitate international trade.
Discussions also touched upon recent Mexican policy changes, specifically a decree by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo that eliminated tariffs on automotive assembly parts starting October 13, potentially encouraging Chinese automakers to establish operations in Mexico. The Governor of Shandong recognized Michoacán as a key reference for agricultural and mining activities.
