Michoacán Attorney General Carlos Torres Piña Granted Extended Leave

The 76th Legislature of Michoacán approved a further 45‑day extension of the leave granted to State Attorney General Carlos Torres Piña, effective from 5 August 2026. The extension follows an earlier 45‑day license approved on 17 June 2026, and legislators stipulated that Torres Piña must submit a written notice to the Congress to confirm his return.

Political analysts note that Torres Piña’s continued collaboration with Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla and PVEM leader Ernesto Núñez Aguilar signals a unified front ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle. His extensive territorial knowledge and relationships with local communities are being highlighted as assets for a potential candidacy, while he maintains that any future appointment must follow clear and equitable rules.
