Michoacán authorities arrest alleged avocado extortionist

Authorities in Michoacán, Mexico, have arrested Cristian Martín “N”, known as “El Vikingo,” for allegedly extorting avocado producers, merchants, and bar owners in the Uruapan region. The arrest took place on August 7 following intelligence operations and a pursuit by the Civil Guard after detecting a vehicle with tinted windows.

According to José Antonio Cruz Medina, the Secretary of Public Security, “El Vikingo” acted as a liaison for extortion activities and is reportedly linked to Rafael Álvarez Ayala, alias “El R2,” a member of the criminal group “Los R’s,” which is associated with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). It was also noted that the suspect worked as a professional boxer at a sports club in Jalisco.

This arrest is part of a broader security effort to protect the avocado sector. In a related operation, another individual, Dionicio “N,” was detained on August 10 in Peribán following extortion complaints filed with the State Attorney General's Office.
