Michoacán authorities issue safety alerts amid heavy rains
The Secretariat of Government (Segob), through the State Civil Protection Coordination, has issued an alert for the population of Michoacán due to ongoing and expected heavy rainfall. Authorities are urging residents to reinforce prevention measures to mitigate risks from flooding, water accumulation, and landslides.
Civil Protection recommends that households prepare an emergency kit containing water, non-perishable food, lamps, batteries, a first aid kit, essential medicines, and phone chargers. Important documents should be kept in waterproof bags. During intense rain, citizens are advised to avoid crossing flooded streets, rivers, or streams, whether on foot or in vehicles.
Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed, increase following distances, and keep headlights on. In mountainous and highway areas, residents should remain vigilant for landslides, falling trees, or falling rocks. Authorities emphasized the importance of following evacuation orders promptly and monitoring official weather forecasts via the 9-1-1 emergency line.
