Michoacán Congress approves reform to strengthen union autonomy

The Congress of the State of Michoacán has approved a reform to the Law of Workers in the Service of the State. The initiative, proposed by Deputy Octavio Ocampo, aims to strengthen union democracy and labor freedom.

The reform establishes a democratic model designed to protect unions from interference by public servants regarding their constitution, administration, and internal elections. It seeks to guarantee institutional neutrality during union processes, protect the freedom of the union vote, and prevent the misuse of public resources for union proselytism.

Under the new regulations, improper institutional intervention in union affairs will be recognized as misconduct and subject to sanctions under the administrative responsibility regime.
