Michoacán culture initiatives announced by Secum

The Michoacán Secretariat of Culture (Secum) has announced several cultural initiatives aimed at promoting gender perspective, literature, and regional traditions within the state.

The eighth edition of the Muestra Divergentes film festival, themed “La rebelión de la mirada,” will bring gender-perspective cinema to Morelia, Pátzcuaro, Uruapan, and Zamora starting in September. The program includes workshops such as a scriptwriting course for women and gender dissidents, as well as a call for short films addressing gender violence.

In literary news, Secum presented “Creándonos en las Palabras,” a publication featuring texts from 19 female writers in Michoacán. Part of the “Cartografía de Escritoras en Michoacán” project, the work aims to increase the visibility of women in literature and will be available in audiobook format.

Additionally, the municipality of Nahuatzen will host the 2026 Cultural Week from August 19 to 23. The event, held during the feast of San Luis Rey, will feature traditional Purépecha music, dance competitions, a Cantoya balloon festival, and parades to celebrate the region's cultural heritage.
