Michoacán electoral institute faces budget shortages for 2026
The Instituto Electoral de Michoacán (IEM) is facing a budget shortage that threatens key activities for the 2026 electoral process. Selene González Medina, the provisional president of the IEM, reported that the state executive has not yet released the necessary funds.
Specific risks include the contracting of the Preliminary Election Results Program (PREP), the printing of ballots, and the operation of decentralized bodies. While the IEM Council approved a reduced amount of approximately 50.9 million pesos for the remainder of the year, the organization has yet to receive a response from the State Ministry of Finance regarding the request.
