Michoacán Electoral Tribunal upholds sanction against Gerardo Fernández Noroña

The Electoral Tribunal of Michoacán has upheld a sanction against Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña for alleged political violence against gender against the Mayor of Uruapan, Grecia Quiroz.

Despite arguments regarding parliamentary immunity, the tribunal ruled by majority that Noroña’s verbal aggressions warranted sanctions. The ordered measures include a requirement for the senator to issue a public apology and a prohibition against referring to Quiroz in the manner previously used.

Quiroz confirmed that the Electoral Institute has formally notified Noroña of the resolution. She emphasized that the case is not a personal matter but a broader issue regarding political violence that requires a definitive halt.
