Noel Salgueiro Nevárez sentenced to 29 years for organized crime
Noel Salgueiro Nevárez, also known as “El Flaco Salgueiro,” has been sentenced to 29 years and three months in prison. The ruling, announced by the Federal Prosecutor's Office (FGR), also includes a fine of 378,472 pesos.
Salgueiro Nevárez was identified as the founder and leader of the Gente Nueva criminal group in Chihuahua, which operated as a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel under the leadership of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. He was found responsible for organized crime, possession of cartridges, and the illegal carrying of firearms reserved for the use of the Armed Forces.
His legal history includes a 2011 arrest by the Mexican Secretariat of National Defense and a 2019 extradition to the United States. In June 2026, INTERPOL coordinated his controlled deportation back to Mexico, where he was immediately detained. He will serve his sentence at the Altiplano Federal Social Readaptation Center in the State of Mexico.
