Michoacán government seeks resolution in Raúl Meza Abonce sabotage case

The Michoacán government is seeking a swift resolution to the criminal proceedings against activist Raúl Meza Abonce, who faces charges of sabotage related to protests held on November 3, 2025.

Secretary of Government Raúl Zepeda Villaseñor stated that the administration does not intend to harden the case or request new precautionary measures. He noted that, under the governor's instructions, the government proposed a change in measures to allow Meza Abonce to remain free during the judicial process.

The defense has accused the state government of alleging that the activist acted as part of a common plan during the protests following the homicide of former Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo. The defense is currently facing a request for a 12-year prison sentence and a reparation payment of 1.37 million pesos. An intermediate hearing is scheduled for September 3, 2026.
