Michoacán Governor Announces 11.2 bn‑peso Investment for Eastern Development
Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla announced a historic investment of more than 11.2 billion pesos to spur economic growth in the eastern part of Michoacán. The funding comes from a partnership between the state, private sector and the federal government led by President Claudia Sheinbaum under the Plan Michoacán por la Paz y la Justicia.
Key projects include the modernization of the Maravatío‑Zitácuaro highway with an allocation of over 4.5 billion pesos, expected to serve nearly one million residents and cut travel times by up to 40 minutes. A new IMSS Specialty Hospital in Zitácuaro will be built for 1.5 billion pesos, featuring 150 beds, more than 1,100 health professionals and services such as hemodialysis. Forest products company Arauco is investing more than 5.2 billion pesos to expand its MDF plant, which will become Mexico’s largest and create over 2,000 jobs. The governor emphasized that these infrastructure and health initiatives will boost tourism, improve security and raise living standards for the region’s inhabitants.
