Michoacán launches flood mitigation works in Morelia and Pátzcuaro
Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla supervised the desazolve, cleaning and rehabilitation of the Itzícuaro drain in western Morelia. The 5.5‑kilometre work, now 23 % complete, is coordinated with the municipal water and sanitation agency to separate storm‑water from sewage, improving flow and reducing flood risk in the city’s Poniente area.
The National Water Commission (Conagua) delegation in Michoacán announced an integral project to rescue the Guani River in Pátzcuaro after recent overflow caused by heavy rains. Teams will conduct immediate cleaning and desazolve, assist affected families, and implement a long‑term recovery plan. Officials urged residents to keep a 10‑metre buffer zone clear of encroachments and waste to prevent future blockages.
