Michoacán launches Product of Origin Award to boost local economy

The Michoacán Product of Origin Award 2026 has been announced by the Secretariat of Economic Development (Sedeco) to promote the visibility, reputation, and commercial projection of products linked to the state's identity and communities.

The call for entries is open to individuals, organizations, communities, and institutions that have contributed to the production, conservation, promotion, or innovation of Michoacán-based products. Eligible candidates include those with denominations of origin, geographical indications, collective marks, and certification marks, as well as emblematic products that preserve cultural identity.

Currently, Michoacán holds eight geographical indications, three denominations of origin, two certification marks, and one collective mark. These protections help verify authenticity and provenance, helping to build consumer trust and market positioning. To apply, candidates must submit a formal application and a technical sheet detailing the product's origin, history, production process, and regional relevance. Winners will be awarded gold, silver, and copper medals based on criteria including quality, innovation, and socio-economic impact.
