Michoacán lawmaker Nalleli Pedraza proposes state disability information system

On 6 July 2026, local deputy Nalleli Pedraza Huerta presented a bill before the Michoacán State Congress to create a State System of Information on Disability. The system would gather reliable statistics on education, labor inclusion, justice access, violence, health and social participation for people with disabilities, aiming to close a data gap that “makes them invisible to public policies,” she said. The proposal amends article 81 of the State Law for Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, authorising the Michoacán Council for Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities to design, coordinate and administer the system using existing administrative infrastructure without creating new bodies or budget lines.

Separately, the municipal DIF in Morelia, under honorary president Paola Delgadillo Hernández, called for volunteers to support the “Luces de Catedral Brillando para Todos” event on 11 July 2026. Volunteers will receive a mandatory one‑hour training on disability awareness and will assist families with access, orientation and safety during the spectacle, reflecting the city’s broader push for inclusive public services.
