Michoacán legislators hold meeting to raise lupus awareness
Legislators of the 76th Legislature in Michoacán, Mexico, held a meeting to increase visibility for lupus and other autoimmune diseases. The event included specialists and representatives from civil associations, including ALMA (Autoinmunidad y Lupus de Michoacán A. C.) and the Athié-Calleja Transdisciplinary Center for the Rights of People with Lupus (Cetlu A. C.).
During the meeting, Baltazar Gaona García, President of the Board of Directors of the State Congress, emphasized the need to address institutional barriers and protect individuals from discrimination and indifference related to their conditions. Deputy Teresita Maldonado Herrera noted that a reform to the Health Law regarding rare diseases was approved in February, which mandates the Secretary of Health to conduct a state census for these conditions to better recognize and support affected individuals.
