Michoacán Legislature enters final year with focus on social welfare
As the 76th Legislature in Michoacán enters its final year, representatives from the Labor Party (PT) are calling for a focus on legislative results rather than political maneuvering. Deputy Diana Mariel Espinoza Mercado highlighted that her faction has presented over 200 initiatives during the first two years, focusing on social welfare, environmental care, and public finance.
Espinoza Mercado, who serves as president of the Commission on Electoral Affairs and Citizen Participation, emphasized the need to address future challenges such as digital environment regulation and the protection of youth. She also noted that while Michoacán has implemented significant electoral reforms for the 2026-2027 cycle, work remains to ensure legal certainty and combat political violence against women. Key priorities for the upcoming year include a socially conscious budget for municipalities and a security agenda centered on prevention and substantive equality.
