Michoacán officials allege CJNG involvement in Carlos Manzo murder

Juan Daniel Manzo Rodríguez, the Michoacán Undersecretary of Government and brother of the deceased Carlos Manzo, has accused the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) of carrying out the murder of Carlos Manzo with the support of municipal officials in Uruapan.

Manzo Rodríguez noted that investigations have revealed certain “concealments” and unanswered questions as arrests proceed. He highlighted that Esteban Constantino, the Secretary of Public Works in Uruapan and a close associate of the victim, has failed to appear for three summons issued by the State Attorney General's Office (FGE). Constantino has already been fined, and authorities may seek an arrest warrant if he continues to fail to appear.

In contrast, Deputy Carlos Bautista Tafolla of the Movimiento del Sombrero has claimed that the investigation into the murder has been politicized. Bautista Tafolla called for total clarity from ministerial authorities, arguing that the judicial process must remain independent of political interests and that his questioning is focused on the transparency of the investigative conditions rather than a refusal to cooperate.
