Michoacán passes law to certify student social service experience

The 76th Legislature of Michoacán approved an amendment to article 186 of the State Education Law, allowing students to receive an official certificate recognizing the skills and knowledge acquired during their mandatory social service. The reform, driven by Deputy Teresita Herrera Maldonado, aims to address the lack of verifiable work experience for recent graduates and gives educational institutions 90 days to adjust internal regulations.

In parallel, the Universidad Latina de América (UNLA) completed its 2026 Summer Social Service program in Morelia, deploying student brigades to local community development centers. Participants conducted workshops, recreational activities, and educational projects, reinforcing teamwork, leadership and civic responsibility while providing tangible community benefits. The program illustrates the practical application of the new certification framework for student service.
