Michoacán police officers detained for criminal network ties and extortion

The Michoacán State Attorney's Office announced the arrest of two security officials in Uruapan: Héctor Hugo “N”, a former prosecutor, and Juan Luis “N”, a Guardia Civil officer, accused of supplying confidential operational information to a cell linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in connection with the murder of Carlos Manzo Rodríguez. Their detention brings the total number of arrests related to the case to 24.

In a separate operation, municipal police officer Sebastián Thonatiu “N” was detained on charges of aggravated extortion after investigators linked his phone number to a scheme demanding 150,000 pesos from a victim, accompanied by threats and a shooting at the victim's home. The arrests were presented by State Attorney Carlos Torres Piña and Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla as part of a broader effort to combat organized crime and impunity in the state.
