Michoacán politicians clash over accusations against Raúl Morón

Michoacán state legislator Baltazar Gaona García has called for the ‘Movimiento del Sombrero’ to apologize to Senator Raúl Morón Orozco. Gaona argues that accusations linking Morón to the murder of former Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo Rodríguez have caused significant damage to Morón’s personal and political image.

Gaona noted that Morón previously led preference polls for the 2027 Michoacán gubernatorial race, but suggested these allegations have negatively impacted his political standing and internal Morena party coordination. He stated that current investigations do not provide evidence linking Morón to the homicide.

In response, independent deputy Carlos Alejandro Bautista Tafolla, representing the Movimiento del Sombrero, declined to offer an apology. Bautista stated that any grievances regarding political accusations should be addressed through legal channels rather than political negotiations. He emphasized a desire to set institutional precedents rather than engaging in political favors or backroom deals.
