Michoacán Prosecutor investigates Uruapan Mayor over links to homicide suspect

The Michoacán State Prosecutor's Office (FGE) has opened an investigation into the relationship between Uruapan Mayor Grecia Quiroz García and Samuel “N”, an individual accused of leaking sensitive information to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

This investigation follows expanded testimony from Yesenia Méndez Rodríguez, the former private secretary to the late Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, who was assassinated on November 1, 2025. Méndez Rodríguez provided documentary evidence to the FGE, alleging that Samuel “N” was recommended for a municipal position by Quiroz García due to their close friendship.

Méndez Rodríguez raised concerns regarding how Samuel “N” maintained access to the former mayor’s private agenda—information that was strictly limited to the security team, the private secretariat, and Quiroz herself. She also testified that she had requested Samuel “N”’s removal from his post two months prior to the homicide due to behavioral issues and addiction, yet he continued to have access to municipal administration areas.

Israel Vega Rodríguez, acting head of the state prosecutor's office, confirmed that while this line of inquiry existed, the new testimony has increased its significance. Authorities are currently working to determine how the private information reached the accused and whether additional criminal responsibilities exist.
