Mexico expands women’s protection and support services across multiple states

The State Secretariat for Women (Semujeres) in Yucatán has opened 14 new Centros Libre, bringing the network to 45 offices that provide free legal, psychological and social‑work assistance in 43 municipalities, with a goal of covering all 106 municipalities by 2030. Services are also offered in Maya language where needed.

In Guanajuato, the state prosecutor reported issuing more than 13,000 administrative protection orders and over 10,000 additional safety measures in the first half of 2026, with 40 % of cases prosecuted and over 500 convictions. Specialized women’s safety prosecutor offices operate 24/7 in ten municipalities.

Quintana Roo’s governor launched a Mobile Women’s Unit that travels throughout the state with three modules delivering legal, psychological and social‑work services to remote communities, aiming to close access gaps.

Michoacán’s Equality Secretariat (Seimujer) maintains several hotlines – 079 for emotional support, 075 “Tú Decides” for legal‑abortion counseling, and 911 for emergencies – and operates 127 free Centros Libre that provide legal, psychological and social assistance, complemented by mobile brigades that bring services directly to underserved areas.
