Michoacán State Uses Drones to Reforest Burned Forests

The Michoacán State Forestry Commission (Cofom) has deployed drones to scatter 92,000 germ‑seed balls across five municipalities, restoring 26 hectares of forest damaged by fires and other degradation. Seed dispersal was performed at an average of 4,000 germ‑seed balls per hectare, covering areas such as La Cebadilla (Nuevo Urecho), El Estribo (Pátzcuaro), Mesa de Tzitzio, Turicato and Tacámbaro, using species suited to local conditions.

The initiative, called “Bio Renace: Dispersando Vida,” aims to reach 50 hectares by distributing a total of 200,000 seed balls, with planned further drops in Quiroga, Los Reyes and Uruapan. Species planted include Pinus devoniana, Pinus pseudostrobus, Enterolobium cyclocarpum, Leucaena leucocephala and Swietenia humilis, reflecting the program’s focus on innovative technology to rebuild forest ecosystems and enhance regional resilience.
