Michoacán to represent Mexico at forest conservation forum in Indonesia
The state of Michoacán will represent Mexico at a technical exchange event titled ‘Public-Private Partnerships in Conservation and Restoration’ in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, from September 7 to 10. Organized by the Governments for Climate Forest Task Force (GCF-Task Force), the forum focuses on jurisdictional-scale collaboration and integrating the private sector into sustainable value chains to improve forest restoration.
Alejandro Méndez López, head of the Michoacán Secretariat of the Environment (Secma), stated that the state will present successful local initiatives, including the ‘Guardián Forestal’ program and the ‘Pro Forest Avocado’ certification. Michoacán was nominated to represent Mexico due to its status as a full member of the GCF-Task Force, an organization comprising 11 countries and 45 states and provinces. The participation aims to strengthen international cooperation and share knowledge on reducing deforestation, sustainable development, and inclusive forest governance to combat climate change.
