Michoacán wheat and rice producers to receive federal incentives

Small and medium-sized wheat and rice producers in Michoacán, Mexico, will receive federal production incentives and guaranteed prices ranging from 7,050 to 9,080 pesos per ton. The state's Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (Saber) announced the measures to improve harvest commercialization and strengthen rural family incomes.

For wheat, Michoacán ranks seventh nationally with 27,284 hectares cultivated across 54 municipalities. Small producers can receive 7,600 pesos per ton for up to 50 tons, while medium producers are eligible for 7,050 pesos per ton for up to 140 tons. An additional climate-related incentive of 200 pesos per ton is also available.

Regarding rice, which covers 5,577 hectares in seven municipalities, small producers will receive 9,080 pesos per ton for up to 80 tons, and medium producers will receive 8,260 pesos per ton for up to 250 tons. These guaranteed prices are set significantly higher than current rural average prices, which sit at approximately 4,600 pesos for wheat and 5,800 pesos for rice.
