Mick Gordon rejects use of generative AI in music composition

Composer Mick Gordon, known for his work on the Doom soundtrack, has expressed strong opposition to the use of generative AI in musical composition. During an interview with IGN at PAX Australia 2026, Gordon stated, “F##k AI,” making it clear he has no intention of incorporating the technology into his creative process.

Gordon argued that generative AI is inherently limited because it is trained on existing human-created content. He explained that while AI can draw logical conclusions from a dataset, it will always be restricted by that data and will never be able to predict or create the truly new things that humans are capable of inventing.

Gordon is currently working on the soundtrack for the cyberpunk-themed squad-shooter Defect. His upcoming work can also be heard in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2, scheduled for release on October 14.
