Mick Schumacher faces IndyCar exit threat from team principal Günther Steiner
Team principal Günther Steiner warned that a poor season could jeopardise Mick Schumacher’s place in the American IndyCar series. After eleven of sixteen races, the 27‑year‑old German driver is ranked 25th of 33 drivers with 108 points, his best finish a 16th place at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 in Illinois. Steiner said IndyCar is a highly specialised, physically demanding discipline and that Schumacher needs a learning year to adapt to the cars and oval tracks. He added that if Schumacher delivers another weak season next year, staying in the series will be difficult, but the team will give him time to improve.
Schumacher, the son of former F1 champion Michael Schumacher, entered IndyCar at the end of 2025 after stints in Formula 1, a Mercedes test role and the WEC with Alpine. He was named Rookie of the Year at the Indianapolis 500, finishing 18th, but has struggled to match the podium‑regular performances of teammate Graham Rahal.
