Scott McLaughlin takes IndyCar pole at Laguna Seca

Scott McLaughlin of Team Penske secured the pole position for the IndyCar season finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, narrowly defeating Alex Palou by 0.0177 seconds. The qualifying session also marked Chevrolet’s 250th IndyCar pole position.

In driver news, Mick Schumacher has officially signed with Meyer Shank Racing to compete in the 2027 IndyCar season, moving from Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. He will drive the No. 66 car alongside Marcus Armstrong. Additionally, Conor Daly has signed a multi-year contract with Dreyer and Reinbold Racing to compete full-time in the 2027 season.

The race weekend at Laguna Seca also saw a significant incident during a Porsche Sprint Challenge session, where driver Manuel Gil Del Real crashed into a barrier at the Corkscrew, resulting in his transport to a hospital. He was reported to be conscious following the accident.
