Mickey 17 finds global streaming success on Netflix after theatrical flop

The science-fiction film Mickey 17, directed by Bong Joon-ho and starring Robert Pattinson, has transitioned from a theatrical box-office disappointment to a global streaming success. Despite grossing approximately $133 million against a $118 million budget—a result that fell short of the estimated $236 million to $295 million required to break even—the film is now performing strongly on digital platforms.

On Netflix, Mickey 17 has reached the No. 8 most-watched movie worldwide. It is also seeing significant viewership on HBO Max, where it holds the No. 2 spot among most-watched movies in France. The film, based on Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7, follows an expendable worker whose body is regenerated after death to serve a space colony mission.

Critics have responded positively to the film, which holds a 77% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. The production features an ensemble cast including Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, and Toni Collette.
