Mickoski calls for EU to prevent bilateral obstacles for North Macedonia

North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski addressed the resilience summit in Düsseldorf, calling for a more decisive response from the European Union regarding the country's accession process. Mickoski argued that North Macedonia's path to EU membership should not depend on bilateral issues or demands from individual member states.

He stated that the country has faced a standstill for 15 years due to what he described as artificial questions. Mickoski emphasized that EU membership should involve adopting and adding European values rather than forcing a change in national identity. He further noted that bilateral blockades weaken the institutional resilience of the EU itself, urging the Union to take robust action to ensure that once agreed obligations are met, no new bilateral conditions follow.
