During a visit to Washington, D.C., North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski met with U.S. officials, including representatives from the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and members of Congress. Mickoski emphasized the strategic partnership between the two nations and discussed potential investments in energy, high technology, and infrastructure. Specifically, the government is exploring financing through the DFC for energy projects such as Chebrem and Galishte.

Mickoski also outlined plans for digital development, including the construction of a primary data center to enhance cybersecurity and connect public institutions. He stated that while the country pursues EU integration based on reforms, it will continue to focus on economic growth, energy transit via interconnectors with Greece and Serbia, and infrastructure projects like Corridors 8 and 10.

Opposition leader Venco Filipce has criticized these initiatives, arguing that the proposed data centers could consume excessive water and electricity without providing significant employment. Filipce also raised concerns regarding the environmental impact on the Vardar River and called for a referendum on the construction of mines near residential areas, accusing the government of prioritizing private interests over national resources.
