Mickoski visits Washington to strengthen US-North Macedonia strategic ties

North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski conducted a working visit to Washington, D.C., meeting with U.S. officials, members of Congress, and economic leaders to strengthen strategic partnerships. During his address to the Atlantic Council, Mickoski outlined government priorities including European integration based on reforms, NATO obligations, and infrastructure development in energy, transport, and high technology. He specifically highlighted plans for a primary data center to bolster cybersecurity and the development of gas interconnectors with Greece and Serbia to position the country as a regional energy hub.

Mickoski held discussions with representatives from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) regarding potential investments in energy and modern infrastructure. He also met with U.S. Congress members, including Keith Self and Claudia Tenney, to discuss parliamentary cooperation and bilateral relations.

Opposition leader Venco Filipce criticized the administration, claiming Mickoski’s policies are isolating the country and stalling its European path. Filipce alleged a significant decline in foreign direct investment, stating that quarterly investments dropped to 18 million euros in the second quarter of 2026, compared to previous averages of 200 to 250 million euros.
