Micro Center requires ID and non-export forms for RTX 5090 sales
Micro Center, a US electronics retailer, has implemented new purchasing requirements for the Nvidia RTX 5090 graphics card and pre-built systems containing it. Customers are reportedly required to provide government-issued photo identification and sign an ‘advanced computing product purchaser declaration’ form.
The new policy aims to prevent scalpers from purchasing high-end hardware to resell in China. The declaration requires buyers to provide their legal name, address, phone number, email, and the intended location and purpose of the hardware. Under the policy, customers must affirm that the hardware will remain in the United States and will not be exported or transferred abroad.
Reports from customers indicate that store staff scan driver's licenses to verify identities. Micro Center has stated ‘NO EXPORT, NO EXCEPTIONS’ regarding these transactions. While some users have questioned the legal enforceability and practical implementation of these restrictions, the measure appears to be a recent rollout at several locations, including California and Ohio.
