Micro Enterprises Boost Credit Use in Peru and Drive Job Growth in Mexico

A study by Equifax Perú analyzed 6.77 million individuals linked to micro and small enterprises (MYPES) and found that 78 % had at least one regulated credit in the past year, representing 5.2 million people. Credit use among MYPES was 1.9 times higher than among non‑MYPE adults, and credit‑card utilization reached 89 % in August 2025 and stayed above the national average through April 2026.

In Mexico, data from the Directorio Estadístico Nacional de Unidades Económicas show that micro, small and medium enterprises (MIPYMES) make up 99.85 % of all economic units in Puebla’s municipal capital and provide 83.5 % of formal employment, employing more than 357 000 workers through roughly 106 000 firms. While the sector is numerically dominant, the 156 large companies (0.15 % of units) employ 70 000 people and generate higher average annual revenues. The municipal government has introduced programmes such as Incentiva Puebla and Tu Crédito Imparable to support entrepreneurship and formalisation.
