Micro-EV adoption grows in Japan with new commercial and retail rollouts
The Japanese micro-mobility market is seeing increased activity with the rollout of specialized single-occupant electric vehicles (EVs). Lean Mobility has begun accepting orders for its Lean3 model at Autobacs Cars stores nationwide. The Lean3 is a compact, single-occupant micro-EV with a top speed of 60km/h and a range of approximately 100km, priced from 1,698,000 yen.
Simultaneously, KG Motors, a startup based in Higashihiroshima, is expanding the commercial use of its mibot micro-EV. The vehicle is being adopted for professional use, including by Chugoku Bank for short-distance customer visits and by the Higashihiroshima City Hall for official duties. These vehicles are designed for efficiency in urban environments, offering a low-cost and low-environmental-impact alternative to traditional light vehicles for single-person tasks.
