Micro-mobility trends shift toward off-road capable electric scooters and e-bikes
As demand grows for micro-mobility options capable of handling diverse terrains, riders are increasingly looking beyond smooth pavement to gravel, forest tracks, and coastal paths.
For electric scooter users, transitioning to rougher surfaces requires specific hardware considerations. Standard commuter models often lack the necessary frame rigidity and tyre specifications for off-road use. Sturdier frames reduce flex on uneven ground but increase weight, impacting portability. Additionally, wider pneumatic tyres with knobbly treads are essential for maintaining grip and absorbing impacts on loose material, whereas narrow city tyres may lose traction.
Similarly, the electric bike market is seeing the rise of ‘electric SUV’ (eSUV) models designed to bridge the gap between urban commuting and off-road adventure. These bikes, such as the Amflow TL Carbon, feature all-terrain tyres and suspension systems. While these crossover models offer versatility for both grocery runs and trail riding, they often involve compromises in weight, specialized utility, and security compared to dedicated city or mountain bikes.
