Microbiome research explores new antibiotics and soil-human connections

Scientific experts are presenting new research regarding the role of microbes in health and environmental stability. At the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg, Germany, Prof. Dr. Helge Bode will discuss how the microbial building blocks of bacteria can be utilized to discover or engineer new antibiotics. Additionally, Dr. Ilka Bischofs-Pfeifer will present research on how microbes manage stress and what these biological strategies might reveal about human stress management.

In Austria, the organization Ja! Natürlich is collaborating with microbiome researcher Prof. Dr. Gabriele Berg from TU Graz to explore the connection between soil health, food diversity, and the human gut microbiome. This initiative includes a research cooperation to examine the microbiomes of specific foods and addresses public awareness regarding dietary diversity in Austria.
