Microchip and Navitas launch 800V power design for AI data centers

Microchip Technology and Navitas Semiconductor have collaborated to develop a new 800V DC-to-6V DC reference design specifically for AI data center rack power applications. This solution addresses the increasing power demands of high-power GPU clusters by shifting toward 800V DC architectures, which improve distribution efficiency and power density.

The platform integrates Microchip’s digital power control and security technologies, such as the dsPIC33AK Digital Signal Controller and TA100 CryptoAuthentication IC, with Navitas’ GaNFast gallium nitride (GaN) power devices. By combining two conventional conversion stages into a single converter, the design aims to reduce power loss and allow for a more compact, low-profile module that can be placed closer to GPU boards.

Key technical targets for the design include a peak efficiency of up to 96 percent at full load, a 1 MHz switching frequency, and a power density of 2,100 W/in³. The solution is designed to align with the Open Compute Project (OCP) 800V DC standard. The companies plan to showcase the reference design at the 2026 OCP Global Summit.
