Microchip expands 10BASE-T1S portfolio for edge connectivity
Microchip Technology Inc. has expanded its 10BASE-T1S Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) portfolio to support scalable edge connectivity in automotive, industrial, and robotics applications. The expansion includes the introduction of the LAN8679 and LAN8680 PMD transceivers, as well as the LAN8660X/1X/2X family of endpoints with integrated transceivers.
These new solutions are designed for next-generation zonal architectures, aiming to reduce wiring complexity and simplify architectures as systems move toward fully Ethernet-based networks. The LAN8679 features a compact 8-pin VDFN package with a standardized Open Alliance 3-Pin (OA3P) interface, while the LAN8680 integrates System Basis Chip (SBC) features such as power management and watchdog supervision. The LAN8660X/1X/2X family integrates a PMD transceiver into a single-chip Remote Control Protocol (RCP) solution, eliminating the need for external PHY components.
Designed to meet AEC-Q100 and ISO 26262 functional safety standards, these devices utilize multidrop topology to allow multiple nodes to share a single bus line. This approach is intended to reduce system costs and wiring volume by allowing sensors and actuators to connect directly to the network edge.
