Microchip Technology Acquires Israeli Edge‑AI Firm Hailo

Microchip Technology Incorporated announced a definitive agreement to acquire Hailo, an Israeli provider of accelerated edge‑AI processors, vision chips and AI software. The transaction, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, is expected to close by the end of September. Financial terms were not disclosed and Microchip does not anticipate a material impact on its earnings.

The acquisition adds Hailo’s AI accelerator families – Hailo‑8, Hailo‑10 and Hailo‑15 – along with advanced vision processing, image‑signal processing, digital‑signal processing and video‑encoding capabilities. This expands Microchip’s portfolio for intelligent‑edge applications such as robotics, drones, smart cameras and industrial automation. Hailo brings over 100 customers and a developer community of more than 10,000 users.

Senior Corporate Vice President Mark Reiten said, “The acquisition of Hailo accelerates Microchip’s expansion into high‑performance edge AI processing.” The deal is positioned as a technical‑strengthening move rather than a growth‑driven acquisition.
