Micron launches 1α DRAM production at Virginia plant

Micron Technology has started manufacturing its 1α (1‑alpha) DRAM memory at the Manassas, Virginia facility. The move is part of a $2 billion expansion aimed at strengthening U.S. semiconductor capacity and will quadruple DDR4 wafer output at the site. The plant will supply long‑life memory for automotive, defence, aerospace, industrial, networking and medical applications, with qualified production expected by the end of 2026. The project creates more than 3,100 manufacturing and community jobs and is backed by federal, state and local incentives as part of Micron’s broader plan to invest roughly $200 billion in U.S. semiconductor manufacturing and R&D.
