Micron Technology invests $10 billion in long-term AI research hub
Micron Technology is making significant long-term strategic investments to capitalize on the artificial intelligence boom. The company has announced plans to invest $10 billion over the next decade to establish the ‘Micron Research Labs’ in Boise, Idaho. This facility, expected to begin construction in 2027, will focus on advanced memory technologies, computing architectures, and chip packaging to maintain a competitive edge in the AI era.
Financially, Micron has experienced extreme volatility, with shares rising over 300% earlier this year before facing significant corrections. Despite this, Wall Street analysts remain largely bullish. Many analysts have set median price targets significantly higher than current trading levels, citing strong demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI servers and strategic multi-year customer agreements.
CEO Sanjay Mehrotra has noted that AI-driven demand is accelerating and that supply constraints for critical memory components are expected to persist through 2027. The company’s recent fiscal performance has been bolstered by this demand, with revenue seeing massive year-over-year increases. While some analysts have adjusted price targets due to market uncertainty, the consensus remains focused on Micron’s role in the AI infrastructure supply chain.
