Micron Technology Shares Fall Below $1,000 Amid AI Demand Uncertainty

Micron Technology’s stock surged more than 2,000% over the past three and a half years, reaching a high of $1,213 in early July. A slowdown in AI software spending and a recent 30% pull‑back pushed the share price down to $848 on July 17, putting it below the $1,000 level.

Micron’s high‑bandwidth memory (HBM) is a key component for data‑center GPUs used in AI training and inference. The company has begun shipping its new HBM4 chips, which offer a 60% capacity increase and 20% better energy efficiency, and have been adopted by Nvidia for its Vera Rubin GPUs. Micron expects the data‑center HBM market, valued at $35 billion in 2023, to grow to $100 billion by 2028. The firm also supplies memory for PCs, smartphones, vehicles and robots, where emerging AI workloads are driving higher memory needs.
