Microsoft 365 Copilot redesign and broader Office 365 AI, security updates announced

Microsoft announced a redesign of the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on May 28, introducing a task‑aware prompt surface, progressive disclosure and a faster, cleaner interface that loads over 50% quicker. The update adds Power BI integration, makes the Planner agent generally available, and brings real‑time screen‑sharing with voice, simplified meeting controls and expanded recap sharing across Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

In a parallel weekly digest, Microsoft detailed dozens of Office 365 changes scheduled through 2026, including new Copilot capabilities such as AI‑driven summaries, chat enhancements, scheduled prompts and structured document generation. Teams will receive a refreshed in‑meeting experience with simpler controls, a smarter share panel and proximity‑join support for presenters using Teams Rooms on Windows and Android. Outlook gains S/MIME certificate support, external‑email tagging and reaction handling. Security and compliance updates feature faster DLP policy sync, updated BitLocker mitigation guidance, Purview AI observability improvements, insider‑risk management and auto‑labeling for Azure data sources. The company also outlined upcoming retirements of the Power Platform Security Score and the legacy PDF viewer, as well as billing changes and deadlines for external‑access token retirement and Exchange Web Services blocking.
