Microsoft adds option to disable Copilot button in Windows 11

Microsoft is testing a new "Do nothing" setting for the Copilot button in Windows 11 Insider builds. The option, found under Settings → Keyboard, lets users fully deactivate the key so it no longer launches the Microsoft 365 Copilot assistant. The change follows user criticism after the button replaced the right‑Ctrl key on newer laptops. The feature is currently limited to recent experimental builds and is not yet available to all Insider participants, but Microsoft may roll it out to stable versions later this year if approved.

The discovery was reported by insider user phantomofearth on X, showing the new toggle in the latest build. The option provides an alternative to the default behavior, which automatically opens the AI assistant, and addresses concerns about accidental activation of the Copilot helper.
